Moda is a quarter of Kadıköy on a small peninsula on the Asian shore, between the center of Kadıköy and the Kurbağalıdere creek, with Yoğurtçu Parkı on its edge.12 It became a prominent residential area in the 1870s, when wealthy non-Muslim families built mansions here; the Whittall Mansion of 1900, later the home of the musician Barış Manço, is now a museum.1
The quarter is known for its ice-cream makers and tea gardens.2 Its cafés start on Moda Caddesi, the spine of the peninsula, and spread into Bademaltı Sokak, Şair Latifi Sokağı, Kadife Sokak and Dr. İhsan Ünlüer Sokak, so brunch places, small roasters and bars that stay open past midnight sit within a few blocks of each other.
Local tip: With the T3 tram out of service until early 2027, walk the 15 minutes from the Kadıköy market or take the İETT electric shuttle to Damga Sokak; Papatya on Moda Caddesi opens at 07:00.

Moda is about a 15-minute walk south of the Kadıköy market.5 The nostalgic tram line, running from Kadıköy to Moda since 2003, stopped on 19 October 2026 for track and infrastructure renewal and is due back in the first months of 2027.13 Until then İETT electric vehicles run from the Kadıköy İDO pier to the Damga Sokak stop, and the Kilise, Moda İlkokulu and Moda stops are out of service.3
By water, Moda İskelesi, the pier designed by Vedat Tek in 1917, reopened after restoration on 19 August 2022 as a ferry landing with a book café and a library.2
The Moda Aile Çay Bahçesi (Moda Family Tea Garden) spreads across the top of a steep hill above the Marmara coast, a no-frills Kadıköy institution with tea, soft drinks and sandwiches under umbrellas.4 Time Out gives its hours as 06:00–24:00, and in April 2026 a glass of tea there cost about ₺20–30.45
Kadife Sokak, better known as Barlar Sokak (bar street), fills with a young, mostly local crowd on weekend nights.6 Its cafés keep the same hours: Bina, at No. 26, is open daily until 02:00, and Kahve Bahane Kültür Cafe, at No. 27, until 02:30 from Monday to Saturday.
Specialty coffee in Moda started very small. In 2016 European Coffee Trip found Rafine Espresso Bar on Moda Caddesi so small that three customers filled it, a bar built for coffee to go, with six more seats outside.7 Rafine opens daily 09:00–21:00 and Urban Roastery 10:00–21:00. Doz Roastery starts earliest, at 08:00 on weekdays and Sundays, and serves until 22:00.
For breakfast and brunch, 700 GRAM on Ruşen Ağa Sokağı opens daily at 09:00 and SOFA on Şair Latifi Sokağı at 10:00; House of SOFA is on the same street. Morn is on Yoğurtçu Parkı Caddesi, and Ohayo Matcha Bar, on Osman Zeki Üngör Sokağı, serves matcha until 23:00 every day.
Garni, on Şevki Bey Sokağı, is open 24 hours. Of the cafés with set hours, Papatya, at 128A Moda Caddesi, opens first, at 07:00 daily. Meet Lab Coffee and Doz Roastery follow at 08:00 on weekdays, and Pişi Mutfak on Ağabey Sokağı opens at 08:00 from Tuesday to Sunday and closes at 18:00.
At night, FatCat and Meet Lab Coffee stay open until 00:00 every day, Taico until 00:00 at weekends and Moda Cafe until 02:00. On Bademaltı Sokak, Bonne Nuit and Montag are neighbors, at Nos. 24 and 22.
