Cẩm Lệ is Da Nang's southwest, along the Cẩm Lệ river. It was created as a district on 5 August 2005, partly from Khuê Trung ward, which had until then belonged to Hải Châu.12 At its last full count it covered 33.3 km² in six wards: Khuê Trung, Hòa Thọ Đông, Hòa Thọ Tây, Hòa An, Hòa Phát and Hòa Xuân.1
That map no longer exists on paper. Since July 2025, Khuê Trung and the two Hòa Thọ wards make up Cẩm Lệ ward, Hòa An and Hòa Phát have joined the old An Khê ward of Thanh Khê, and Hòa Xuân has absorbed the former communes of Hòa Châu and Hòa Phước.3 People still call the whole southwest Cẩm Lệ.
Local tip: After heavy rain in October or November, check the low riverside lanes of Hòa Xuân before riding out; some sit about 2 m below the newer roads around them.

The river and the new suburbs
Hòa Xuân, the southern end of the old district, lies beside the Cẩm Lệ river about 10 km south of the city center.4 In 2009 the riverside strip between the Cẩm Lệ and Nguyễn Tri Phương bridges was earmarked as a land reserve. The plan stalled for its residents while new urban areas, such as the one along Đinh Gia Trinh, rose around them.4
The gap is literal. In 2023 the road into one riverside block in Hòa Xuân sat about 2 m below the new district beside it, and it flooded twice after heavy rain in the first seven months of that year.4
Rainy season in the southwest
Da Nang's typhoon and wet season runs from September to December. September to November bring 550 to 1,000 mm of rain, and October alone averages 628 mm.5 February is the driest month, with about 24 mm.5
For a low-lying riverside area, those numbers matter more than they do on the beach side. If you are riding out to a Cẩm Lệ café in October or November, check the route after a heavy downpour; the newer raised roads are the safer bet.

Mộc Nguyên Coffee at 60 Mẹ Thứ runs 06:30–22:00 and is one of the few here with outdoor seats.

Getting to Cẩm Lệ
From the riverfront hotels, Cẩm Lệ is a ride rather than a walk. Hòa Xuân alone is about 10 km from the center, so a Grab bike or car is the usual way in.4 The Nguyễn Tri Phương bridge, one end of that 2009 riverside plan, is a handy landmark for drivers, and Cafe Đà Phố gives its address as the intersection at the bridge.
