Vietnam is a robusta country. USDA's forecast for 2026/27 puts output at 32.5 million 60 kg bags, of which 31.4 million are robusta and only 1.1 million arabica.1 Specialty cafés draw on that small arabica share and on imported lots. One domestic source is the northern highland province of Sơn La, which had about 26,120 hectares of arabica and an estimated 2025 output of 37,724 tonnes of green beans.2
Specialty has a technical meaning: coffee that scores 80 or more out of 100 on the Specialty Coffee Association's cupping scale.3 Da Nang cafés use the word more loosely, for roasters, pour-over bars and anywhere that can tell you a bean's origin. Sprudge's 2025 guide quotes a barista noting that many young Vietnamese now choose arabica despite the country's robusta reputation.4
Local tip: Àla closes at 18:00, earlier than most specialty cafés, so make it a morning stop and save XLIII or Z! for the evening; both stay open until 22:30.
Where these cafés are: Ngũ Hành Sơn (9), Hải Châu (8), Thanh Khê (2), Liên Chiểu (2), Cẩm Lệ (1), Sơn Trà (1).

What a specialty cup costs in Da Nang
In October 2026 Znews put a specialty cup in Vietnam's cities at 70,000–100,000₫, several times the price of a street cà phê sữa đá.6 A 2026 national price guide sets a wider band for arabica, 70,000–150,000₫ a cup, against 25,000–60,000₫ for phin-brewed robusta.5
The caffeine gap is real too. The same guide gives robusta about 2.2–2.7% caffeine and arabica about 1.2–1.5%, so a light-roast arabica carries roughly half the kick of the phin coffee next door.5
Where specialty cafés cluster
Specialty coffee in Da Nang splits evenly between Hải Châu on the west bank and Ngũ Hành Sơn on the beach side, with Passport Coffee Roastery on Trường Thi 6 in Thanh Khê as the outlier.
In Hải Châu they hide in alleys and side streets: Àla Cafe in kiệt 113 Nguyễn Chí Thanh, Brewman at 27/21 Thái Phiên, Soncha Roastery in kiệt 21 Ông Ích Khiêm, Mia Coffee Roastery at 9 Quang Trung, Outta Da Blue Specialty Coffee on Pasteur and Becoming Specialty Coffee at 74 Thi Sách. In Ngũ Hành Sơn, four of the six sit in the An Thượng lanes behind My Khe beach.
Four specialty cafés in detail
Àla is a two-story café with a rooftop and an orange La Marzocco; its menu has run beans from Ethiopia, Honduras and Brazil, every cup comes with a tasting card, and it holds occasional cupping sessions.4 O2O First Roast, up a flight of stairs at 18/3b Phan Tứ, keeps to medium-to-light roasts with rotating Ethiopian single origins.4
XLIII Specialty Coffee began in Da Nang and now has four branches, two in Ho Chi Minh City; its light roasts have included a Peruvian Gesha.4 Puna Coffee at 132 Lê Quang Đạo roasts in house, combining beans from Colombia, Ethiopia and Kenya with Vietnamese arabica and robusta, and sells retail bags.4
Hours and payment
Specialty cafés open later than street cafés but run long. XLIII and Z! Coffee and Roastery both keep 06:30–22:30, Brewman 06:30–22:00, Becoming 08:00–21:00 and Why Roastery 07:00–20:30. Àla closes at 18:00.
Becoming, XLIII and Z! take cards. Elsewhere, bring cash or a way to pay by VietQR bank transfer.

Specialty coffee in Da Nang: questions
How much does specialty coffee cost in Da Nang?
In October 2026 Znews put a specialty cup in Vietnam's cities at 70,000–100,000₫, several times the price of a street cà phê sữa đá. A 2026 national price guide gives a wider band for arabica, 70,000–150,000₫ a cup, against 25,000–60,000₫ for phin-brewed robusta.
Where does the arabica in Da Nang's specialty cafés come from?
Vietnam grows mostly robusta: USDA's 2026/27 forecast has 31.4 million bags of robusta against 1.1 million of arabica. Domestic arabica comes from highland provinces such as Sơn La, which had about 26,120 hectares in 2025. Several Da Nang cafés also serve imported beans: Puna Coffee roasts lots from Colombia, Ethiopia and Kenya, and Àla's menu has run Ethiopian, Honduran and Brazilian coffees.
Which Da Nang neighborhoods have the most specialty coffee cafés?
Hải Châu and Ngũ Hành Sơn, which are level with each other. Hải Châu's are in alleys and side streets such as kiệt 113 Nguyễn Chí Thanh and Thái Phiên. In Ngũ Hành Sơn, four of the six are in the An Thượng lanes behind My Khe beach. Outside those two, look for Passport Coffee Roastery in Thanh Khê.
