Ngũ Hành Sơn means five elements mountains, after the Marble Mountains at its southern end: five limestone hills named Kim (metal), Thủy (water), Mộc (wood), Hỏa (fire) and Thổ (earth).3 The old district stretched over about 37 km² of coast south of Sơn Trà and had 115,872 residents in 2018.2 Its four wards, Mỹ An, Khuê Mỹ, Hòa Hải and Hòa Quý, were folded into a single Ngũ Hành Sơn ward in mid-2025.1
Coffee here splits in two. The northern tip holds An Thượng, the lanes behind My Khe beach that the city has been rebuilding as a walking tourist quarter since 2022.8 About seven in ten of Ngũ Hành Sơn's cafés are inside it. South toward the mountains, cafés thin out and keep to side streets such as Trần Văn Dư and Thạch Lam.
Local tip: Of the five Marble Mountains, only Mount Thủy can be climbed to the summit. Pair it with the Non Nước carving workshops at its foot.

The Marble Mountains and Non Nước village
All five hills have cave entrances and tunnels, and Mount Thủy is the one you can climb to the top, past grottoes such as Huyền Không and pagodas including Tam Thai.3 The site became a Special National Relic on 20 January 2019, and stone may no longer be quarried from the hills; carvers now bring it in from quarries in Quảng Nam.3
Non Nước, the stone-carving village at the foot of the mountains, traces itself to the late 18th century and a craftsman from Thanh Hóa named Huỳnh Bá Quát. In 2014 it had about 500 workshops employing nearly 4,000 people.4
One coast under several beach names
The shore here is one long beach with several names. Non Nước, at the southern end, stretches nearly 5 km, and My An's night beach connects straight onto the An Thượng tourist street.5
Swim inside the buoyed zones, where lifeguards are posted. In summer they work 04:30–19:00, and My An is one of two city beaches lit and supervised from 19:00 to 22:00.7
Ngũ Hành Sơn's roasters
For specialty coffee, Ngũ Hành Sơn is level with Hải Châu. XLIII Specialty Coffee at 422 Ngô Thì Sĩ (06:30–22:30) started in Da Nang, seats people outside around koi ponds and now has four branches in Vietnam.6 O2O First Roast works from a first-floor room on a side street off Phan Tứ with rotating Ethiopian single origins, and Puna Coffee on Lê Quang Đạo roasts in house.6
Other roasters in the area: Why Roastery at 64 Ung Văn Khiêm, open 07:00–20:30; Z! Coffee and Roastery on Lê Quang Đạo, open 06:30–22:30 with air-conditioning and card payment; Passport Coffee Lab on Mai Thúc Lân; and Roost Roasters on Bà Huyện Thanh Quan.
South of An Thượng
Away from the lanes, Cafeholic Garden Coffee at 61-63 Trung Lương 9 runs 06:30–22:30 with outdoor seats, and Art Coffee at 77 Thạch Lam opens at 06:00. Trần Văn Dư has a short run of its own: KATE Coffee & Tea at 92/1, Cross Coffee at 88 and ACE Coworking Space at 12.
Andy coffee at 6-7-8 Hoài Thanh and Doll coffee in kiệt 1/151 Nguyễn Văn Thoại are open around the clock.
