Kamppi is a neighborhood of about 0.94 km² in central Helsinki; its neighbors include Etu-Töölö, Kluuvi, Punavuori and Ruoholahti.1 The Imperial Russian Army used the area as a training ground from the late 1820s; its name is linked to the Swedish word for battle, and Narinkka, the square at its heart, takes its name from a later market run mostly by Jewish merchants.1

The cafés start in the shopping centers along Mannerheimintie and spread west into the grid. Eerikinkatu and Fredrikinkatu have the most of them, from tea rooms to a cat café, and Bulevardi carries them on toward the Hietalahti market.

Local tip: Ekberg's breakfast buffet ends at 10:30 on weekdays; on Saturdays and Sundays the brunch buffet runs from 09:00 to 14:30 instead.35
