Oodi, Helsinki's central library, has an open network named "Helsinki – Helsingfors" covering the whole building, a café on the third floor and studios and game rooms on the second; some rooms need a Helmet library card and an advance booking.1
Kamppi and Kallio have the most cafés with Wi-Fi, with the rest spread from the station to the Punavuori shore. A few cafés state a laptop policy, and it runs both ways.
Local tip: Think Corner's customer service desk, on the ground floor by the entrance opposite Porthania, lends extension cords and chargers to people working in the building.3
Where these cafés are: Kallio (4), Kamppi (4), Punavuori, Ullanlinna & Eira (3), Sörnäinen & Kalasatama (2), Kluuvi & Kaartinkaupunki (2), Kruununhaka & Katajanokka (2), Vallila & Pasila (1), Ruoholahti & Jätkäsaari (1), Töölö (1).
Nothing matches those filters here. See all cafés in Helsinki.
Oodi opened on 5 December 2018, was named the IFLA public library of the year for 2019, and had more than 2.7 million visits in 2025. The third floor holds about 100,000 books on its "Book Heaven" shelves, and the second has recording studios and the Urban Workshop makerspace.2
Think Corner (Tiedekulma), the University of Helsinki's public building at Yliopistonkatu 4, opens its coworking spaces to everyone. The basement is given over entirely to coworking, the ground-floor Stage and Fönster areas and the second-floor Think Lounge join in when no event is on, and there are no silent zones.3 The building opens 08:00–20:00 from Monday to Thursday and 08:00–17:00 on Fridays, and the café closes at 17:00 (16:30 on Fridays); both are shut at weekends.4
Roasberg, the café on Mikonkatu by the Central Station, invites laptops all day and says nobody will hurry you out; it opens at 09:00 on weekdays.5 Kaffa Roastery's flagship on Pursimiehenkatu is a roomy place for laptop work.6
Others draw a line. Rams Roasters near Kaivopuisto discourages laptops, and Café Esplanad on Pohjoisesplanadi keeps its tables laptop-free from 11:00 to 14:00 on weekdays and all weekend.67
In Kamppi, Café Lasipalatsi is in the Lasipalatsi building on Mannerheimintie, Cafferino Oba is at Kalevankatu 47, Café Boardgame at Eerikinkatu 14 and PSH-LOVE-KA by Pyshburg at Simonkatu 10. In Kallio, Café Meli on Helsinginkatu, Kahvila Sävy on Aleksis Kiven katu and flät no 14 on Viides linja have Wi-Fi.
On the southern side, Kuuma is at Albertinkatu 6, SIS Deli + Café at Pursimiehenkatu 7, and Café Carusel on the seafront. Finca Las Ventanas on Kanavakatu and Cafe Köket on Aleksanterinkatu cover Kruununhaka, Levain covers Töölö, and Kahvila Lähde is on Lapinlahdenpolku. Farther out, DesignCafe Helsinki on Sturenkatu opens 08:00–15:00 on weekdays, and Boa & Bim on Käenkuja in Kalasatama from Tuesday to Sunday.
Cafe Eliel, in the station, opens at 07:00 from Monday to Saturday and stays open until 21:00. SIS Deli + Café also starts at 07:00 on weekdays, and Kahvila Sävy and Finca Las Ventanas at 07:30. For the evening, flät no 14 stays open until 23:00 from Wednesday to Saturday, and Café Lasipalatsi until 20:00 from Wednesday to Saturday. Cafe Braku on Helsinginkatu keeps unusual hours, opening only in the evening on some days, for example 19:30–22:00 on Tuesdays.
