Bandra West keeps its Catholic and Portuguese past in plain view. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount stands on a hillock about 80 m above the sea; the present church dates from 1904, and a week-long fair follows the feast of the Nativity of Mary on 8 September.1 At Land's End, the Portuguese built Castella de Aguada as a watchtower in 1640.2
No neighborhood in Mumbai has more cafés. Many line two streets: Chapel Road, with its roasters and film murals, and Pali Mala Road. Bombay Brioche serves until midnight and Ettarra on Chapel Road until 02:00.
Local tip: Chapel Road covers a whole day: Subko's Mary Lodge opens at 07:30 and Ettarra, a few doors along at No. 36, pours until 02:00.5

Chapel Road's roasters and murals
Chapel Road is one of Bandra's oldest streets, with houses that show Goan influence. Around 2012 the artist Ranjit Dahiya began the Bollywood Art Project here, painting Dev Anand, Madhubala and Amitabh Bachchan on its walls.3
Nearby in Bandra Reclamation, the Bombay Art Society, founded in 1888, opened an Art Complex in 2016 with three galleries, an amphitheater and a library.3
Subko's Mary Lodge, at 21A Chapel Road, occupies a restored bungalow; the roaster dates from the 2020 lockdowns, and its Coco Nolen Gur Flat White mixes espresso, Bengali jaggery and coconut milk.4 Subko lists the café as open from 07:30, until 22:00 Monday to Thursday and 21:30 at weekends.5 On the same road are Ettarra at No. 36, Retroz at No. 15, Mokai, Basque by Breve, and Haiku in Pearl Haven.
Pali Mala Road and Pali Hill
In early 2006 Matan Schabracq and Anil Kably took the lease on a run-down bungalow on Pali Mala Road and opened The Bagel Shop, a breakfast place built around bagels.6 It opens 09:00–22:30 at No. 30. Seeds of Life, a vegan café at 27/A, opens 11:00–23:00, and the Tea Shop at Aruna Nivas starts at 08:00. The Bagel Shop also runs Queimada, a menu written as a tribute to Bandra's East Indian community.6
Candies has one branch on Pali Hill, next to Learners Academy, and another on KC Marg.
Grey Soul, Boojee and laptops
Grey Soul roasts in-house and runs an espresso bar and a slow bar for Chemex, V60 and AeroPress, with single origins from Chikmagalur, Coorg and Nagaland; its sea salt flat white uses a medium-roast Chikmagalur coffee.4
Boojee opened in Bandra in 2019 as a 100 sq ft café; it is now on New Kantwadi Road, off Perry Cross Road.7 It is one of the few Mumbai cafés that discourage laptops.8 For Wi-Fi, try Vidhi on D'Monte Park Road, open 11:00–23:00, or foodstuffs on Munjra Street.
Bandstand and the sea
Byramji Jeejeebhoy Road runs along Bandstand toward the fort, with Café Sea Side and The Bandstand Pantry on it. The Bandra Band Stand Residents' Trust began a conservation program for the fort in 2003.2 Taj Mahal Tea House is inland on St John Baptist Road. Up the hill, an earlier Mount Mary church was raided and destroyed in 1738, then rebuilt in the British era.1
