A pasticceria is a pastry shop, and in Milan most have a coffee counter at the front, so a cappuccino and a pastry is breakfast as much as a treat. The trade has deep roots here: Marchesi dates from 1824, and Taveggia, on Via Uberto Visconti di Modrone, has traded under the sign Taveggia dal 1909 since that year.1

Taveggia shows how fragile those names can be. It stood closed for a long stretch after the bankruptcy of its operating company, and reopened in summer 2022 under the team behind Gamberini in Bologna, with the sign and the range unchanged, budini di riso (rice puddings) included.1 It opens at 07:00 on weekdays and closes at 15:00 on Sundays.

Local tip: Taveggia still makes budini di riso, rice puddings, at Via Uberto Visconti di Modrone 2; on Sundays go before 15:00, when it closes.
