Al Sadd takes its name from sadd, a plant that grows in eastern Qatar, especially along the coast.1 Since the early 2000s it has filled with Western-style high-rises and thousands of new homes, most of them housing migrant workers, and Qatar's national master plan marks it as a town center, with offices and shops planned along Al Sadd Street.1 Al Sadd SC, the multisports club formed in 1969, carries the district's name.1
Cafés follow the main roads: Al Sadd Street, with Koora Cafe, Opera and Eiffel Cafe (مقهى ايفل), and Suhaim Bin Hamad Street, with Albasha Cafe, Petty Cafe and La Boutique. Fereej Al Nasr borders the district to the south, and its Al Kinana Street has Cream Seoul and Nouvo Inizio Art Cafe.1
Local tip: For a late coffee after the last metro, Nouvo Inizio Art Cafe on Al Kinana Street stays open until 02:00 and reopens at 06:00.

Al Sadd is one of Doha's late districts. Its Qatari and Levantine grill houses usually serve until 02:00 or 03:00, and several run around the clock; a meal costs about QR40–70, as of July 2026.3
Cafés keep similar hours. Nouvo Inizio Art Cafe on Al Kinana Street opens 06:00–02:00 daily and has Wi-Fi and outdoor seating and doubles as a bakery, and Al Naimi Cafeteria on Souq Al Khaleej Street opens 07:00–01:00. The cheapest late meal alongside karak is a shawarma wrap, about QR10–15 in July 2026.3 On Thursday nights and weekends, parking near the busiest karak windows fills up after midnight.6
Neighborhood cafeterias are where Al Sadd eats cheaply. In August 2026, rice dishes, curries, grills and set meals at Doha's cafeterias cost QR15–30, a cup of karak QR1–2, and Al Sadd was among the districts with the widest choice of full meals.4
