The Pearl is an artificial island of almost 4 km², unveiled in 2004 and the first land in Qatar that foreigners could buy freehold.1 About 52,000 people lived there in 2024, in 12 districts built in different architectural styles.1 The first residents moved into Qanat Quartier in 2012; AFP described it as a small-scale, Venice-style neighborhood.12
Cafés cluster around Porto Arabia's marina and in Medina Centrale and Qanat Quartier. Many of Doha's specialty bars and late openers are here, from Zawya Speciality Coffee House on La Croisette to Maia Coffee & Chocolate, which serves until 02:30.
Local tip: Make a coffee crawl by boat: water taxis serve both Porto Arabia and Qanat Quartier, and Karaki in Medina Centrale stays open around the clock for a last karak.
