The phrase to look for is 不限時 (bù xiànshí, no time limit). Tainan guides for students and remote workers list it next to 插座 (chāzuò, power outlets) and Wi-Fi, and they advise calling ahead, since rules and hours change.12 The opposite, 限時 (xiànshí), is a time limit, such as two hours when a café is full.1

West Central District has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, from 道南館 on Minquan Road Section 2 to 杯子,crook in Lane 205 of Minsheng Road, followed by the streets around NCKU. Shennong Street adds a few for the evening, among them 好好笑 and 太古101咖啡.

Local tip: If a café is full, the no-limit promise may lapse: 文鼎留聲咖啡廳 drops to a two-hour limit when every seat is taken, so arrive early for a long session.1

What 不限時 means in practice

A no-limit rule can bend when a café fills up. 文鼎留聲咖啡廳, a café below a gramophone museum in West Central District, lets you stay as long as you like on weekdays but limits tables to two hours when it is full.13 Expect a minimum order too: Akatsuki asks for one drink per guest and won't count dessert.4

Some old houses are built for long sittings. 最初的地方, in Lane 122 of Fuqian Road Section 1, has a quiet ground floor and tatami seats upstairs, with books and picture books for children.1 THENN LEH, in the same lane, has Wi-Fi, outlets and no time limit, and stays open until midnight.1

Paying by the hour at Room A

Room A on Kangle Street turns the arrangement around and charges for time instead of coffee. As of October 2025, the first hour cost NT$100 and every minute after it NT$1, with an all-day pass for long stays; Wi-Fi and outlets are part of the deal.1

It is a short walk from Shennong Street, where 好好笑 at No. 82 has Wi-Fi until 23:00 and 微笑日作菓子 at No. 109 until 19:00.

Wi-Fi near NCKU

I'm Coffee's branch at Shengli Road 118 let students stay without a time limit in 2024, from 08:00 to 18:00.2 Phoenix Box Cafe on Minzu Road Section 1 has a high ceiling and bright, open tables, and rents its space for talks and meetings.2

Among the cafés with Wi-Fi nearby, The Shop on Daxue Road West opens 08:00–20:00 daily, Yum Yum Café in Lane 192 of Linsen Road Section 2 08:00–18:00 except Wednesdays, and 穿牆貓 in Lane 291 of Yunong Road 12:00–17:30 from Tuesday to Saturday. 圍讀珈琲 on Yule Street closes on Thursdays, and Map Café is on Kaixuan Road.

Wi-Fi in the old city, by day and night

In West Central District, 尋早早餐 on Wufei Street opens at 07:00 on most weekdays, 潘奇堡 in Lane 170 of Jiankang Road Section 1 at 08:30 from Monday to Saturday, and 克勞斯咖啡店 at Gongyuan Road 129 at 10:00 from Tuesday to Saturday. kokoni, in Lane 372 of Ximen Road Section 2, opens 11:30–20:30 except Tuesdays.

For later work, 道南館 at Minquan Road Section 2, No. 248 opens until 21:00 except on Sundays, when it closes at 18:00, and 甘單咖啡 in Lane 4 of the same road until 21:30. Akatsuki in Lane 84 of Zhongyi Road keeps Wi-Fi on until midnight. East of the railway, 辰星咖啡 on Fulian East Road runs 08:00–23:00.
