Until 23:00 in Masaki

Café Arabica keeps the steadiest late hours: 07:30 to 23:00 from Monday to Saturday, and 10:00 to 23:00 on Sunday. Bean There Café on Haile Selassie Road also reaches 23:00, but only on Saturday; it closes at 22:00 from Wednesday to Friday and on Sunday, and at 20:00 on Monday and Tuesday.

Café Blanc on Mahando Street stays open until 23:00 on Saturday and Sunday and until 21:00 on other days, and is closed on Tuesday.

Closing at 22:00 or 22:30

Hug a Mug, at 102 Haile Selassie Road, closes at 22:30 every night, which makes it the most predictable choice for a late coffee in Masaki. Wild Flour Artisan Bakery serves until 22:00 daily, opening at 07:30 on weekdays and 09:00 at weekends.

Fraîche, at 11 Mawio in Mbezi Beach, runs a long day: 06:30 to 22:00 on weekdays, 08:30 to 22:30 on Saturday and 08:30 to 22:00 on Sunday.

Obama Road after work

Café Aroma, on Obama Road in the city centre, stays open until 23:00 from Monday to Saturday, with Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Sunday is the exception: it closes at 17:00. It also serves brunch and baked goods, takes cards and has limited wheelchair access, which makes it an easy meeting point after office hours in Kivukoni or Kisutu.

The city after 21:00

The city keeps trading after dark. A street-food seller told the Daily News in January 2023 that she makes most of her sales between 21:00 and 01:00, and the regional commissioner, Amos Makalla, spoke of plans for lighting and CCTV from the airport to Kariakoo and the city centre.3

Fraîche and Café Blanc both pair late hours with a terrace and an air-conditioned room, take cards and serve vegan dishes; Hug a Mug and Wild Flour Artisan Bakery offer the same mix in Masaki.

Getting back at night

British travel advice says crime is higher at night and recommends avoiding walking or cycling after dark or alone. It suggests arranging taxis through a hotel or travel operator, checking the driver's ID, and never accepting lifts from strangers, since express kidnappings have involved unlicensed taxis.2

Ride-hailing options have narrowed. Uber stopped operating in Tanzania, including Dar es Salaam, on 30 January 2026 after years of dispute with the Land Transport Regulatory Authority, leaving Bolt, In-Drive and Little as the remaining apps; Bolt is the market leader with a reported 30,000 drivers.4
