Few Portland cafés open before 06:00, and most of those that start at 06:00 on weekdays wait until 07:00 at weekends. Mississippi & Williams has the most early openers, followed by Hawthorne & Division, with South Waterfront & Southwest and Brooklyn & Woodstock close behind.

One café does not close at all. Rose City Coffee Co at 3370 SE Milwaukie Avenue, in Brooklyn, went to 24-hour service on November 11, 2025, with coffee and its breakfast and lunch sandwiches at any hour.1

Hawthorne and North Portland

Coava's espresso bar at 2631 SE Hawthorne Boulevard and its Grand Avenue flagship both open at 06:00 on weekdays and 07:00 at weekends.2 Albina Press, which opened a third café in Vancouver, Washington, in 2018, opens both its Portland cafés at 06:00 every day: 5012 SE Hawthorne and 4637 N Albina Avenue.3 Clinton Street Coffeehouse at 2706 SE 26th Avenue opens at 06:00 from Monday to Saturday.

In North Portland, Coffeehouse Five at 740 N Killingsworth Street starts at 06:00 on weekdays, Madrona Hill Café at 5937 N Greeley Avenue every day, and Mocks Bottom Cafe at 6040 N Cutter Circle on weekdays only, closing at 14:00.

Pearl District, Northwest and downtown

Barista, which Billy Wilson opened in the Pearl in 2009, starts at 06:00 on weekdays at 539 NW 13th Avenue.4 Sisters Coffee Company at 1325 NW Marshall Street keeps the same hours. In Northwest, The Great North at 1951 W Burnside opens at 06:00 on weekdays.

Downtown, Coco Donuts at 814 SW 6th Avenue opens at 06:00 from Monday to Friday and 07:00 on Saturday; Lotus & Bean at 536 SW 3rd follows at 06:30 on weekdays. Sterling Coffee Roasters at 518 NW 21st Avenue and Crema at 2728 SE Ankeny Street also start at 06:30.

South Waterfront and the southeast

The Portland Aerial Tram climbs 500 feet from South Waterfront to OHSU Hospital on Marquam Hill in about three minutes, and runs from 05:30 on weekdays.5 Ovation Coffee & Tea at 3730 S Bond Avenue opens at 06:00 on weekdays, and JoLa Cafe at 5915 S Corbett Avenue at 06:00 every day, closing at 19:00.

Further east, Papaccino's at 4411 SE Woodstock Boulevard opens at 06:00 on weekdays and stays until 22:00, Speedboat Coffee Shop at 5115 SE Foster Road opens at 06:00 from Monday to Saturday, and Cafe Cinco Siete at 8235 SE 13th Avenue in Sellwood at 06:00 on weekdays. On SE 82nd Avenue, Mocha Express at 1951 opens at 06:00 on weekdays and stays open until 20:00.

Northeast mornings

Extracto at 2921 NE Killingsworth opens at 06:00 on weekdays and 07:00 at weekends, and Saint Simon Coffee Company at 2005 NE Broadway opens at 06:00 every day and closes at 14:00. Further out on NE Fremont, Caffe Destino at 1339 opens at 06:30 on weekdays.
