HSR stands for Hosur Sarjapur Road Layout, which the Bangalore Development Authority developed in 1985 on land reclaimed from Agara Lake.1 It is split into seven sectors with wide, tree-lined roads, and sits close to Electronic City, Sarjapur Road and the IT parks of the Outer Ring Road.1

Startups moved in when Koramangala grew too expensive, and HSR now has more co-working spaces than any other part of Bangalore.1 Its cafés follow the same pattern: roasters on 17th Cross and 24th A Cross, tea shops on 19th and 31st Main, and an Indian Coffee House on 19th Main in Sector 2.

Local tip: Walk the path round Agara Lake early, then take breakfast at Marseli Cafe & Patisserie on 24th Main, which opens at 07:00.
