MG Road was South Parade until 26 February 1948, when it was renamed after Mahatma Gandhi; it runs between Trinity Circle and Anil Kumble Circle, lined with shops, banks, offices and restaurants.1 Church Street, named after St. Mark's Cathedral, runs parallel to it for 750 m, and Brigade Road links the two.2 The area spreads from Cubbon Road and Lavelle Road to Richmond Road, Shanti Nagar and Ulsoor (Halasuru).

No part of Bengaluru has more cafés, and the range is wide. The Indian Coffee House on Church Street pours filter coffee from 08:00 to 20:30, while roaster cafés fill the rest of the street.3 Off the main roads are a Mumbai roaster in a 70-year-old house, a bookshop café on Edward Road and a lakeside terrace in Ulsoor.

Local tip: For a filter coffee and a roaster's cappuccino on one street, start at the Indian Coffee House on Church Street, open from 08:00, then walk to The Caffeine Baar at No. 46.
