Seminyak began as a separate township and is now a suburb of Kuta, on Bali's west coast just north of Kuta and Legian.1 Land and rooms here are among the most expensive on the island, and the area is known for spas, high-end shops and restaurants.1 Petitenget, Umalas and Kerobokan run into it without clear borders; Kuta is about 15 minutes south by car and Canggu about 25 minutes north.2

Revolver Espresso, in a lane off Jalan Kayu Aya, is counted among the early movers of Bali's specialty coffee, and more than a decade on it still draws baristas and coffee regulars.4 Cafés in Seminyak and Kerobokan are less concentrated than Canggu's: the longest stretch on Jalan Petitenget, a few on Jalan Drupadi and a run of breakfast and brew bars in Umalas.

Local tip: Walk to Revolver rather than drive: Jalan Laksmana is a known bottleneck, and the café hides in Gang 51, opposite the Bali Clinic.25

Getting around Seminyak's two-name streets

Traffic is heavy and Jalan Laksmana is a known bottleneck, so walking, or renting a motorbike or bicycle, usually beats a car.2 Coming from Kuta or Legian, Jalan Sunset, the eastern bypass, is longer but usually faster.2

Many roads carry two names. Jalan Laksmana is also Jalan Oberoi, and Jalan Arjuna is Jalan 66.2 Jalan Raya Seminyak, the main road running parallel to the beach, is more often called Jalan Legian.1 Addresses switch between the names, so search a café by name rather than street.

Pura Petitenget and the beach

Pura Petitenget is a small temple beside the beach, off Jalan Petitenget, that has stood since at least the 16th century; it belongs to the chain of west-coast temples linking Uluwatu and Tanah Lot.2 The name joins peti (chest) and tenget (charged with magic), after a legend in which the priest Dang Hyang Nirartha sealed the area's evil spirits in two wooden chests and set a converted giant, Buto Ijo, to guard them.3

The odalan (temple anniversary) falls on a Wednesday every 210 days by the Balinese Pawukon calendar, when banners and parasols go up and pilgrims come in temple dress.3 Seminyak and Petitenget beaches form one long stretch of grey sand, quieter than Kuta's and with little surf; sunsets are the draw.2

Revolver, Expat and the house roasters

Revolver sits down Gang 51, Jalan Kayu Aya, in a lane opposite the Bali Clinic.5 As of October 2025 it opened 07:00–23:00 daily, roasted its own beans from Balinese and regional arabica, and ran a smaller offshoot, Baby Revolver, down the road; breakfast plates cost Rp 95,000–130,000.4

EXPAT. Roasters at 1A Jalan Petitenget was founded in 2017 and buys directly from Indonesian growers, especially those within 40 km of the roastery.7 The Farmer Brews Coffee at 21 Jalan Drupadi roasts on site, using beans from a family farm in Belantih in the Kintamani highlands, and brews them seven ways.7 Coffee Cartel in Kerobokan Kelod, started by the Australian Blake Johnson, now roasts in Legian and Wollongong; its Ripple Latte prints a picture onto the foam with coffee extract.6

Umalas mornings and the late tables

Umalas, on the Kerobokan side, starts earliest. Umalas Brew Bar and Vinyl Coffee Bar, both on Jalan Umalas Tunon, open at 06:00, and Umalas Breakfast Club on Jalan Dukuh Indah and Rise and Shine Cafe on Jalan Bumbak Dauh follow at 07:00. All four close by the afternoon, between 15:00 and 17:00, and Coffee Cartel keeps similar hours, 07:30–18:00.6

For evenings, The Coffee Library on Jalan Raya Seminyak, Earth Cafe & Market and la naya bali on Jalan Pangkung Sari serve until 23:00, and Gusto Gelato & Caffe on Jalan Mertanadi until 22:00. Jalan Drupadi has HUT Bali at 2B and Uma Kopi Seminyak at 3, open to 22:00, while Gourmet Cafe at 77A Jalan Petitenget pairs Italian coffee with teas, salads and pastries.2
