SCBD, the Sudirman Central Business District, packs 45 hectares into 25 lots of towers, among them Pacific Place, Equity Tower and Treasury Tower. The Istora Mandiri and Senayan Mastercard MRT stations and Transjakarta corridors 1 and 9 serve it.1 It is one of the business blocks of the Golden Triangle, the area bounded by Jalan Sudirman, Jalan Rasuna Said and Jalan Gatot Subroto.2

Jalan Senopati and its side streets belong to Kebayoran Baru, built from 1948 as a garden city to Mohammad Soesilo's plan.34 The street is lined with restaurants and cafés; in 2019 The Jakarta Post called it the city's first "Little Seoul", with dozens of Korean restaurants among them.4

Local tip: On a Sunday morning, walk down car-free Jalan Sudirman to SCBD, then cross to Jalan Senopati for coffee; Otten Coffee at No. 77 sells beans and brewing gear as well as drinks.

Coffee chains in SCBD & Senopati

Otten Coffee and the start of Fore

Otten Coffee, founded in Medan by Robin Boe in 2012 to sell coffee beans and machines, opened its second store on Jalan Senopati in August 2018. The same month Fore Coffee began as a small booth on that store's second floor; by the end of 2024 Fore ran 217 outlets.5 Otten is at Jalan Senopati No. 77.

The rest of Senopati's coffee is spread along its length: Kapyc Coffee and Roastery at No. 3, Moon Gypsy at No. 16, Anomali Coffee at No. 19, Kopi KANO at No. 32, BRAUD Cafe at No. 36, Pison at No. 70, Cacaoté at No. 80 and Dopa Coffee Studio at No. 113.

Roasters on Jalan Suryo and Tulodong Bawah

Crematology Coffee Roasters put its flagship in Senopati before opening in a mall in Puri Indah and on Jalan Cipete Raya.6 Its shop here is on Jalan Suryo, as is Suryo46 Coffee House at No. 46. Anomali's Senopati branch offered single-origin Bali Ulian, Sumatra Kerinci and Aceh Gayo by manual brew in 2022, open 07:00–23:00, at Rp25,000–46,000.7

Kurasu, the Kyoto coffee company, began serving on the second floor of the Templ concept store at Jalan Tulodong Bawah I No. 9 on 17 August 2023.8 Crumble Crew and Sedjuk Bakmi & Kopi are on the same street. Jalan Gunawarman has kopilobi at No. 30 and That's Life Coffee upstairs at No. 24.

Coffee in the SCBD towers

Inside SCBD, KAFFEINE is at The Foundry No. 8 on Lot 8, Bean Me Up and Cafe De Burse share Equity Tower on Lot 9, and Blumchen Coffee is at Fairground on Lot 14. Pacific Place has Canteen on the fourth floor and Rayuan Pulau Kopi in the basement, and Bukanagara Coffee and Roastery is in Graha CIMB Niaga.

First Crack Coffee, which runs classes on the Specialty Coffee Association curriculum, has a branch in SCBD.7 Expat. Roasters opened in December 2023 on the 13th floor of Mori Tower on Jalan Sudirman; it buys more than 90% of its green beans directly from over 50 Indonesian producer families.9

Car-Free Day and traffic rules

Every Sunday morning since May 2012, Car-Free Day has closed Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Thamrin to cars. On weekdays the Golden Triangle runs odd-even plate rationing, which replaced the "three in one" carpool rule in 2016.2
