Jūsō is the district around Hankyu's Jūsō Station in the southwest of Yodogawa Ward, where the Yodo River separates it from Umeda.1 The station opened on 10 March 1910 on the line that is now the Takarazuka Line, and today the Kobe, Takarazuka and Kyoto main lines all meet there.2
The name may come from an old land-numbering system or from a ferry counted as the 13th crossing up the Yodo; ferries ran here in the Edo period.1 The streets around the station are known for shopping arcades and restaurants, including the original shops of several Kansai chains, and the Sakaemachi side is also an entertainment district of pachinko parlors and cabarets.1
Local tip: On fireworks day, get your coffee early: Cafe yutte closes at 18:00, an hour before the 19:00 start, and the Jūsō viewing area is a 15-minute walk from the station.

All three Hankyu main lines, to Kobe, Takarazuka and Kyoto, stop at Jūsō, where two island platforms and two side platforms serve six tracks at ground level; the district is also close to Shin-Ōsaka.12 Most of Jūsō's cafés are within ten minutes' walk of the station.
The Seventh Art Theater (第七藝術劇場), a mini cinema on the sixth floor of the Sunpōdo City building at Jūsō Honmachi 1-7-27, closed in 1999 and reopened in 2002 with local support.3 Jūsō yakimochi, a rice cake, has been sold at the old ferry crossing since the Edo period. Songs, novels and films have been set here, among them Black Rain.1
Early on 7 March 2014, fire swept through the alley in Jūsō Tomi Town nicknamed Shonben Yokochō (roughly "piss alley"), burning 11 buildings and 36 shops.4 More than three months later the entrance was still closed and the debris not yet cleared, held up by building rules and tangled ownership.4 Rebuilding began in 2016.1
Bigger change is under way nearby. The district moved into Yodogawa Ward in 1974, and the former ward office site is being redeveloped as a 39-story tower with a public library, a nursery and a supermarket, due for completion in 2026.1
Close to the station, Jade Coffee, ONE-UP, かふぇaibou, 珈琲の泉, 珈琲空間 and 珈琲は僕の人生 are all within a few minutes' walk, and のの屋 is at Jūsō-higashi 3-22-32. A little further northeast, 喫茶ニュータイガー, 大石珈琲 and つばめ通り珈琲店 stand close together, and ゆるらかふぇ is at Jūsō-motoimazato 18-18 on the west side.
Cafe yutte opens 10:00–18:00 from Tuesday to Saturday and has Wi-Fi and outdoor seats, and 茶淹 opens 13:00–19:00 on the same days. Neither opens on Sunday or Monday. 珈琲の泉, dtd cafe and the cake shop ケーキ&カフェダイニング ボナボン do takeaway.
