Specialty bars in Valencia mostly close by 18:00, so coffee after dinner means another kind of café.1 The best known is Café de las Horas on Carrer del Comte d’Almodòvar, near the cathedral, which opened in 1994 as a neo-baroque take on an old Parisian literary café, with cocktails, spirits, coffee and cake.23 It opens at 10:00 every day and closes at 01:30, or 02:00 on Friday and Saturday.

It is one of the bars Visit València names for Agua de Valencia: local orange juice with vodka, gin and cava from Requena or Utiel. Constante Gil, owner of the Café Madrid, created the drink in 1959 after a group of travelers challenged him to make something new.3

Local tip: Café de las Horas, one of the bars known for Agua de Valencia, serves until 02:00 on Friday and Saturday and until 01:30 on other nights.3

Old town after dinner

Extramurs and Ciutat Vella have the most late cafés. In the old town, El Cafe Del Mar on Plaça de Lope de Vega is open until 00:30 Monday to Thursday and 01:00 from Friday to Sunday, and El Cafetín on Plaça de Sant Jaume in El Carmen serves from 12:00 to 01:30 daily. Neco, on Carrer de Pascual i Genís, reopens for an evening shift until 23:00, or 23:30 on Friday and Saturday.

Horchatería Daniel on Carrer de la Mar pours horchata until 22:00 every day. The family has made it since 1949, and in 2013 the third generation opened its first branch outside Alboraya, in Valencia’s Mercat de Colón.4 On a summer Sunday Daniel can sell up to 4,000 liters.5

Extramurs and Benimaclet

Café La Placita on Plaça de Sant Sebastià stays open until 00:30 from Tuesday to Thursday and 01:30 on Friday and Saturday. Café Bar Bonbon II on Carrer de Santa Maria Micaela closes at midnight daily, Cafe del Duende on Carrer del Túria at 22:00, and LSD 24H on Gran Via de Ferran el Catòlic never closes.

Benimaclet has the highest share of late cafés of any area. Anubis on Carrer del Poeta Altet opens only from 17:00 to 01:30, Monday to Saturday; La senzilla on Carrer de la Murta runs 08:00–01:00 every day; and Letras y Vinos on Carrer del Músic Belando stays open until 00:30 on Friday and Saturday.

From breakfast to midnight

Some cafés run straight through. Café Colonia 2 on Carrer del Músic Ginés is open 07:00–23:00 daily, Venu’s Coffee on Carrer de José María Haro 07:30–23:30 on weekdays, and Marabú on Carrer de l’Almirall Cadarso 07:30–00:00 Monday to Friday. Cafetería la creme on Carrer del Monestir de Poblet and Café Madrigal on Carrer de Puerto Rico both close at midnight every day.

Dolçaroma on Carrer de Juan de Garay opens at 07:00 on weekdays and stays open until 00:00 at weekends. Capricho de las Américas in Campanar opens only in the evening on weekdays, 19:00–21:00 Monday to Thursday and until 01:30 on Friday. For specialty coffee after dark, Cafe Artysana’s Cabanyal branch on Carrer de la Reina stays open until 22:00 on Friday and Saturday.
