Yongkang Street (永康街) runs south from Xinyi Road to Lane 33 of Lishui Street in Da'an District, with Yongkang Park at the center of its shopping streets and Din Tai Fung's flagship near the top.1 The lanes around it are packed with restaurants, handicraft shops and cafés, and Lishui Street, which runs parallel, adds shops selling tea, pottery and traditional clothes.4 Taipei's tea houses are easiest to find here and on Dihua Street.5

South of Heping East Road lay Shōwa-chō (昭和町), the Japanese-era quarter where professors of Taihoku Imperial University lived; parts of Qingtian, Yongkang and Wenzhou Streets fall within its old boundaries.2 To the west, National Taiwan Normal University gives Shida (師大) its name and its night market. This is where Taipei's late cafés cluster most densely: several pour until midnight.

Local tip: For a late table, walk to Shida Road: God Knows in Lane 105 serves coffee until midnight, and 老茶人 on the same road pours tea until 23:00.
