深夜咖啡 (late-night coffee) has its own following in Taipei. Bella magazine wrote in December 2024 that after dinner or a night out, many people want time alone, and that late cafés offer quiet rooms for reading, work or winding down.1 An earlier Bella roundup called them a refuge for night owls and people working overtime, and noted that most add food or alcohol to the menu.2

The late cafés follow the universities. Yongkang Street & Shida, named for 師大 (Shida, short for National Taiwan Normal University), has the most cafés open until 22:00 or later, followed by Gongguan beside National Taiwan University, Zhongzheng & Main Station and the East District.

Local tip: Order the second cup before 23:00 if you are taking the MRT home: trains run until about midnight, and the last ones finish their runs by 01:00.3

Getting home: the MRT and the midnight line

The Taipei Metro runs daily from 06:00 to midnight, and its last trains finish their runs by 01:00.3 Eating and drinking are banned in the paid area, so finish a takeaway cup before the ticket gates.3

Café tables on the street keep the same clock. Taipei permits sidewalk seating from 07:00 until midnight unless the city's New Construction Office grants an exception, and the furniture must be cleared away outside those hours.4

Shida and Yongkang Street after dark

Most late cafés around Shida close at midnight. 天曉得 (God Knows), at 9 Lane 105 Shida Road, opens daily 11:00–00:00; 2J CAFE, at 9 Lane 79 Jianguo South Road Section 2 (建國南路二段), 11:30–00:00; and 黑潮 stays open until midnight from Tuesday to Sunday. Off Yongkang Street, YABOO at 26 Lane 41 runs 12:00–00:00, and 永康階, a bakery café at 27 Lane 243 Jinhua Street (金華街), serves until 22:30.

The latest in the area is Sugar Man Cafe at 87-1 Heping East Road Section 1 (和平東路一段), near Guting station: in September 2024, Bella reported it open 14:00–04:00 daily, with no time limit and an outlet at every seat.12

Gongguan and Wenzhou Street

Near National Taiwan University, Cafe Bastille at 91 Wenzhou Street and 葉子咖啡, in Alley 14 of Lane 283 Roosevelt Road Section 3, are open until 00:00 every day, as is 魯米爺咖啡館 (lumiele) at No. 15 in the same alley. Picnic Cafe, at 75 Wenzhou Street, serves until 23:00, and Aura微光咖啡 and 城市草倉 (C-tea loft) in the Roosevelt Road lanes until 22:00.

Farther south in Wenshan, 星期天早上 (Sunday Morning), in Lane 26 of Roosevelt Road Section 6, opens 13:00–23:00 and closes on Thursdays.

Past midnight: Dongqu, Dadaocheng and Dazhi

The East District has a café that never closes, 弗列斯 at 123 Yanji Street (延吉街). Toasteria Cafe (吐司利亞), on Lane 169 of Dunhua South Road Section 1, closes at 01:00, and Homey's cafe, at 36 Lane 236 of the same road, at midnight; Marie Claire Taiwan reported in 2026 that Homey's sets no time limit on weekdays or weekends.5

Near Dadaocheng, 町咖啡 (Block & Cafe), on the second floor of 50 Taiyuan Road (太原路), opens daily 08:00–03:00, and Bella found no time limit there in 2024.2 North of the Keelung River in Dazhi, CUCKOO's NEST on Lane 458 of Bei'an Road (北安路) stays open until 00:30, and 穆勒咖啡館 (Cafe Muller) until 01:00 on Friday and Saturday.
