Docklands starts at the western edge of the CBD, on port land that containerization left behind. By the 1990s the docks were nearly abandoned, and urban renewal began in earnest in 2000.1 The stadium, now Marvel, opened that March, and a pedestrian bridge at Bourke Street links it over the rail lines to Southern Cross and the city.1
The coffee trade follows the office week. ANZ's headquarters alone holds about 6,500 staff and NAB's about 3,600, against 15,495 residents at the 2021 census.1 Many cafés keep hours to match: Capri on Aquitania Way closes at 13:30 and B Club Cafe on Caravel Lane opens at 06:00 from Monday to Saturday, so a Sunday visit takes some planning.
Local tip: Plan Docklands around the working week: Tukk and Co closes at weekends and gökotta KAFFE on Sunday, while Daybreak Cafe on Waterfront Way keeps going through both days.

The Coffee Club
Bourke Street, under the buildings
Tukk and Co is beneath the Medibank building at 720 Bourke Street, between the pedestrian and vehicle levels of the street, and its customers call it the only laneway café in Docklands.3 The menu is street food, with burgers, curry, poké bowls and soba alongside small-batch coffee, from 07:00 to 14:00 on weekdays only.3
Collins and Spencer Streets
Long Shot, at 727 Collins Street, is a bakery and coffee house whose bakers make sourdough, large muffins and sticky cinnamon scrolls in a small kitchen.6 It pours filter and espresso alongside juices, wine and beer, and lunch runs to lasagne, moussaka and risotto.6
Bobby Stop Stealing Our Camping Chairs, at 99 Spencer Street, lives up to its long name with camping chairs set outside, meant to get people sitting down and seeing the city differently. The coffee is specialty, roasted in Melbourne by ST. ALi, with iced long blacks and ceremonial-grade matcha on the list.5 It trades from 07:00 to 16:00, Monday to Saturday.
Around the harbor
Victoria Harbour, awarded to Lendlease in 2001, has 3.7 km of waterfront.1 On Village Street, gökotta KAFFE takes a Swedish theme and puts local produce first, with locally produced coffee and milk, breakfast and lunch all day and a stylish outdoor area. It opens at 06:00 on weekdays and 07:00 on Saturday.2
For a Sunday, Daybreak Cafe on Waterfront Way is one to try, opening at 07:30 at weekends and closing at 16:00.
Yarra's Edge and River Esplanade
Yarra's Edge, developed by Mirvac from 2000, is the only Docklands precinct south of the river, with its own 175-berth marina.1
Mad Duck Cafe and 18 Pence Lane share River Esplanade with The Espressonist, at number 108 inside Lorimer Gallery, which serves French pastries and salads as a specialty coffee shop by day and turns into a wine bar and grill at night.4 Its beans are organic and ethically sourced, and its own site says it house-roasts them under the name Zest.47 Anchor Eatery, further along at 196, keeps a shorter day, 07:00 to 14:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, with outdoor tables.
