Las Condes was created by decree on 26 August 1901; one theory derives its name from the Quechua cunti, another from the counts of Sierra Bella.1 It covers 99 km² and had 294,838 residents in 2017, and Avenida Apoquindo is one of its busiest and most important streets.1

Its western end is Sanhattan, the financial district between the Mapocho and Américo Vespucio, with Apoquindo as its central street and the El Golf and El Bosque Norte barrios inside it.2 Cafés there keep office hours; further east they follow the long residential avenues, Cristóbal Colón and Renato Sánchez among them.

Local tip: Plan El Golf cafés for a weekday: Milk Coffee Bar and Cafe Ritual are closed at weekends, while The Elephant Coffee on Napoleón opens every day.
