Outside the cafés, Santiago's free public networks are thinner than they were. Metro de Santiago had 32 free Wi-Fi zones until 2020; the service was not renewed after the pandemic, and riders now go online with their own data plans over the 4G and 3G coverage that runs through the whole network.1

Street hotspots are patchy too. In 2018 the national WiFi ChileGob program, funded through the telecoms undersecretariat Subtel, opened free points in downtown public spaces, among them Plaza Brasil, Parque Almagro, Paseo Bulnes, Plaza Manuel Rodríguez in Barrio República and Parque Forestal opposite the Museo de Bellas Artes.2

Local tip: Don't count on Wi-Fi in the Metro: its free zones weren't renewed after 2020, but 4G covers the whole network, so a local SIM or eSIM keeps you online between cafés.

Where these cafés are: Providencia (7), Barrio Italia & Bustamante (6), Lastarria & Bellas Artes (6), Ñuñoa (6), Santiago Centro (5), Vitacura (4), Las Condes (3), Barrio República (1), Recoleta & Independencia (1).
