Chamartín was a separate town, Chamartín de la Rosa, until Madrid annexed it on 5 June 1948. Today it has six barrios, El Viso, Prosperidad, Ciudad Jardín, Hispanoamérica, Nueva España and Castilla, and two big landmarks: the Santiago Bernabéu and Madrid-Chamartín station, with its 21 tracks.1

Those two bring in crowds, but coffee here leans residential and professional. Offices line the Castellana on the west side. The more interesting cafés sit to the east and south, in Prosperidad, along Calle del Príncipe de Vergara and around Calle de López de Hoyos, where neighborhood bakers and new specialty counters share the same few blocks.

Local tip: Bring a record to Licensed on Cardenal Silíceo: staff will put it on for you, and bringing your own cup or thermos also earns a discount on your drink.2
