The West Loop has the most Chicago cafés with Wi-Fi, a cluster within walking distance of Union and Ogilvie stations, followed by Logan Square and Lincoln Square. Opening hours decide where an afternoon of work is possible: many of these cafés open at 07:00 and close at 15:00 or 16:00, so a longer session means picking one that stays open until 19:00 or later.
Several roast their own beans. Caffè Umbria, a Seattle roastery, put a roastery, a barista training lab and a café on Armitage Avenue in Logan Square in December 2017.1 Dark Matter, which started in 2007 at Star Lounge Coffee Bar on the West Side, has bars with Wi-Fi from Jackson Boulevard to Belmont Avenue.2
Local tip: For work after 19:00, Osmium on Belmont Avenue stays open until 21:00 every day, and FROTH on Monroe Street until 23:00 from Thursday to Saturday.
