The all-night café, cà phê xuyên đêm (overnight coffee) or simply a 24/7 shop, is new to Hanoi. The model first appeared in Saigon around 2012 and took off there in the early 2020s.3 In Hanoi, round-the-clock cafés near West Lake had gone viral on TikTok by 2023, drawing families and students as much as night owls.1

Tây Hồ, around West Lake, has the most of them, ahead of Ba Đình, Cầu Giấy, Hoàn Kiếm and Đống Đa. Several sit off the main roads, in numbered lanes (ngõ) such as Ngõ 6 Đặng Thai Mai and Ngõ 102 Trường Chinh, so keep the full address handy for a driver at night.

Local tip: Go after 23:00, when the evening crowd leaves, and check the café's own page or call ahead before a trip at 03:00.

Where these cafés are: Tây Hồ (West Lake) (4), Hoàn Kiếm (2), Ba Đình (2), Cầu Giấy (2), Đống Đa (2).

Who sits in a Hanoi café at 03:00

Mostly young people and students. In a 2023 VnExpress reader debate about all-night cafés in Hanoi, commenters mentioned people working night shifts for American and European companies, and others who leave hot, cramped rented rooms for a 24-hour café.2

In Saigon, where the format began, a 2022 VnExpress report found students using all-night cafés for group revision during midterms and finals, and delivery drivers resting between late jobs.3 An average of three or four customers slept over each night at the café it visited.3

Hanoi's big all-night garden cafés

Tuổi Trẻ's 2023 visit to a 24/7 café near West Lake found more than 30,000 m² of outdoor seating on mats, chairs and beanbags, and 200–300 customers a night, about double the daytime count.1 It was busiest from 21:00 to 01:00. Drinks cost 50,000–70,000₫, guests could bring their own food with no time limit, and some brought blankets in winter.1

Chains are arriving as well. Three O'Clock, one of the few coffee chains in Vietnam open around the clock and best known in Ho Chi Minh City, opened its first Hanoi store on Trần Nhân Tông, near Thuyền Quang lake, in April 2025.4

Practical notes for an all-night café

Arrive late if you want quiet. One VnExpress reader noted in 2023 that these cafés are usually noisy until about 23:00 and then thin out.2 Bring a layer for outdoor seating between December and February and keep your laptop and phone in sight if you doze.
