Wi-Fi cafés in Hanoi

Wi-Fi for a working day: book cafés in Hoàn Kiếm, work cafés in Cầu Giấy.

For a working day in a Hanoi café, the password is the easy part. What matters is the seat: power sockets, a table at laptop height, air-conditioning in summer and doors that close in winter.

The connection is rarely the weak point. In Ookla's August 2026 Speedtest Global Index, Hanoi's median fixed-broadband download speed was 251.94 Mbps, 30th among world cities, and its median mobile speed of 493.37 Mbps ranked fifth.1 When one café router is shared by a full room, a local SIM with data is the backup.

Local tip: Run a speed test before you unpack, and keep mobile data on as a backup: in August 2026 Hanoi's median mobile speed was nearly double its fixed-broadband median.

Where these cafés are: Hoàn Kiếm (69), Cầu Giấy (33), Tây Hồ (West Lake) (24), Thanh Xuân (18), Ba Đình (18), Đống Đa (17), Hai Bà Trưng (9), Long Biên (3), Hoàng Mai (2).

Book cafés and study cafés

Hanoi's laptop habit grew out of students. The cà phê sách (book café) took shape in the city in the decade before 2020, first beside schools and universities and later in residential alleys, with shelves customers can read from or borrow.2 At some, students read for hours.2

Remote workers use cafés the same way. In a 2023 VnExpress reader discussion, a 36-year-old head of a technology department who works remotely said he takes his laptop to busy cafés because a quiet, empty apartment feels isolating.3

Where Hanoi's Wi-Fi cafés cluster

Hoàn Kiếm has the most Wi-Fi cafés, followed by Cầu Giấy, then Tây Hồ and Thanh Xuân. Free Wi-Fi even reaches the street in Hoàn Kiếm: VNPT began providing it on the new pedestrian streets around Hoàn Kiếm lake in September 2016.4

Cầu Giấy has the cafés named for work. ULA Workspace Cafe at 81 Nguyễn Khang is open 24 hours, and Joy Lab - Work n Cafe at 33 Ngõ 165 Đường Cầu Giấy runs 09:00–23:00. In Tây Hồ, Hai Cafe & Coworking Space at 80 Tô Ngọc Vân keeps the same hours. Tranquil Books & Coffee, at 5 Phố Nguyễn Quang Bích in Hoàn Kiếm, was described in 2020 as a quiet book café for reading and low conversation; it has Wi-Fi and opens 08:00–22:30.2

Hanoi's seasons and a long laptop session

Choose by season as much as by router. Hanoi's mean relative humidity is above 80% year-round and peaks at 88% in March, and January's daily mean is 16.4°C, cool enough to notice in an open-fronted café over a long session.5 June's mean daily high is 34.9°C and July is the hottest month, which is when air-conditioning earns its price.5

Air-conditioning is far from universal. An's Garden Cafe in the Văn Quán estate and Cà Phê Ashtray at 18 Ngõ 170 Hoàng Ngân, both in Thanh Xuân, have it along with Wi-Fi, as does Tổ Chim Xanh at 13 Ngõ 19 Đặng Dung in Hoàn Kiếm. Elsewhere, for a full summer day, check a café's photos or ask before you settle in.

Working etiquette in a Hanoi café

Order when you sit down and order again if you stay through lunch. Ask before unplugging anything to charge, take calls outside, and keep the volume low in book cafés, which are run for reading.2 The usual way to get the Wi-Fi name and password is simply to ask the staff when you order.

FAQ

Wi-Fi in Hanoi: questions

Is café Wi-Fi in Hanoi fast enough for video calls?

Usually the network is not the problem. In Ookla's August 2026 index, Hanoi's median fixed-broadband download speed was 251.94 Mbps and its median mobile speed 493.37 Mbps, fifth among world cities. A crowded café shares one router, so a local SIM with data is a sensible backup for calls.

Which Hanoi districts have the most cafés with Wi-Fi?

Hoàn Kiếm has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, ahead of Cầu Giấy, Tây Hồ and Thanh Xuân. Cầu Giấy has cafés named for work, such as ULA Workspace Cafe at 81 Nguyễn Khang, open 24 hours, and Joy Lab - Work n Cafe, open 09:00–23:00.

What is a cà phê sách in Hanoi, and is it good for working on Wi-Fi?

A cà phê sách is a book café with shelves you can read from or borrow. The format took shape in Hanoi in the decade before 2020, first near schools and universities, and many are quiet by design. Tranquil Books & Coffee at 5 Phố Nguyễn Quang Bích, open 08:00–22:30, has Wi-Fi.

For café owners

Your café deserves better than a pin someone else dropped

Free listings are free for good. A featured page gives you photos, a menu and your own URL, in your café's own design, for less than a coffee a day.
