Cầu Giấy is Hanoi's newer west, carved out of the old Từ Liêm district by a decision that took effect on 1 September 1997.1 The name means paper bridge, after a crossing over the Tô Lịch river and the papermaking villages near it.1 By 2024 it had 294,235 residents on 12.18 km².1

It is a university district first. Vietnam National University, Hanoi has its main campus here, alongside Hanoi National University of Education, Thuongmai University and several others.1 Only Hoàn Kiếm has a larger choice of cafés, and they run from early openers such as XuVi home, at 06:00, to Mơ Cà Phê, which stays open until 03:00.

Local tip: For a late coffee, Mơ Cà Phê on Trung Yên 10A stays open until 03:00, and 9.0cafe on Trần Duy Hưng until 01:00.
