The 15e is the most populous arrondissement in Paris, with 229,713 residents in 2023 on 8.48 km².1 It was built from two communes outside the old city, Vaugirard and Grenelle, annexed on 1 January 1860, and its four quarters today are Saint-Lambert, Necker, Grenelle and Javel.1
This is residential Paris, and its cafés serve the people who live here more than visitors. Rue de Vaugirard and Rue Lecourbe, which both cross the district, have the most, ahead of Rue de la Convention, Avenue de la Motte-Picquet and Rue Blomet. Specialty coffee is scarce and scattered, so it pays to know the addresses.
Local tip: Pair the weekend book market in the Parc Georges-Brassens with a stop on Rue Brancion; T3a stops at Brancion and Georges Brassens, on the park’s doorstep.5

Metro lines 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 13 cross the arrondissement.1 Line 6 runs above ground from Bir-Hakeim to Pasteur, along Boulevard de Grenelle and Boulevard Garibaldi, and all the others stay underground.1 Trams serve the southern edge: T2 at Porte de Versailles, and T3a at Balard, Brancion and Georges Brassens.1 La Motte-Picquet–Grenelle, on lines 6, 8 and 10, is the junction for the northern half.2
Grenelle began as a real-estate venture. In 1824 Léonard Violet and Alphonse Letellier bought about 105 ha on the plain, then part of Vaugirard, and divided it into lots.2 Rue du Commerce was laid out in 1837 and took its name in 1877 as the former commune’s main shopping street; it runs 675 m from Boulevard de Grenelle, under the elevated line, to Rue des Entrepreneurs.2
Des Charmes, at No. 61, opens at 07:00 on weekdays, and A la Tour Eiffel, at No. 96, serves 11:00–23:00 daily. Around the corner on Avenue de la Motte-Picquet, Le Pierrot at No. 67 opens 07:30–02:00, and Primerose at No. 64 has similar hours. Au Moka at 92 Boulevard de Grenelle runs 07:00–02:00 every day.
Bal Blomet, at 33 Rue Blomet, was founded in 1924 and became known as the Bal Nègre after Robert Desnos wrote about it. Josephine Baker, Hemingway, Miró and Sartre were among its visitors.4 After decades as a café and then a jazz club, it reopened in 2017 under its present name.4 Le P’tit Gavroche, up the street at 89 B, opens 07:00–01:30.
La Ruche, at 2 Passage de Dantzig, is the artists’ residence that the sculptor Alfred Boucher founded in 1902 from pieces of the 1900 Exposition, including the Bordeaux wine pavilion. Modigliani, Soutine, Léger and Chagall all worked there.3 Enzo Bistronomie, on neighboring Rue de Dantzig, opens at 07:00 from Monday to Saturday.
The Parc Georges-Brassens, 8.7 ha, occupies the site of the Vaugirard abattoirs and horse market. Its old horse hall has held a weekend used-book market since 1987, and about 700 pinot noir vines grow in the park.5 Tea for my Cat at 68 Rue Brancion opens Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00–18:00.
Bel Horizon Coffee Roaster, at 26 Boulevard Garibaldi under the line 6 viaduct, opens from 08:00 on weekdays and has Sunday hours, 10:00–17:00. Kalve, at 40 Rue Desaix, is the Paris outpost of a Latvian specialty roaster that roasts in Riga and also runs cafés in Tallinn, Vilnius and Lisbon.7
Dahu, at 42 Rue Cauchy, pairs a specialty coffee bar with a workshop for road, gravel and triathlon bikes, and it organizes social rides at weekends.6 Noeud, at 41 Rue Violet, keeps short hours, 09:00–16:00 from Tuesday to Friday.
Le Royal Cambronne opens at 06:00 on weekdays and closes at 02:00 every night. Donnant also starts at 06:00, daily, and Le P’ti Bistrot on Rue Saint Lambert at 06:30 on weekdays. L’Oustal at 139 Boulevard de Grenelle and Au Général Beuret on the square of the same name also stay open until 02:00. Six 15e bars averaged €2.42 for a café in November 2026, ten cents above the Paris figure.8
