Phuket was named a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2015, for food that draws on Hokkien Chinese, Peranakan, Malay and southern Thai cooking.1 Bakery cafés are a newer layer on top of that. The island now has a small artisan scene of sourdough, wholegrain loaves, focaccia, baguettes and pastries baked daily, densest around Bang Tao and Cherng Talay near Srisoonthorn Road.2

Phuket Old Town has the most bakery cafés, with Chalong and Rawai–Nai Harn next and Kata–Karon close behind. The Old Town counters tend to stay open into the evening, while bakeries in the south open early and close by late afternoon.

Local tip: For sourdough from the Bang Tao and Cherng Talay bakeries, arrive before 09:00 on a weekend, or pre-order through Line by Saturday evening for Sunday collection.2
