Boston is not a late city, and the subway sets the curfew. When Corean Reynolds started as the city’s first director of nightlife economy in March 2023, WBUR noted that the T shuts down at about 01:00, a schedule she said “doesn’t necessarily work for a 24-hour city.”1
Harvard Square and the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue up to Porter Square have the most cafés open past 22:00, with Jamaica Plain next. Most stay open late only toward the weekend, from Thursday or Friday to Saturday, so check the night before you go; a few, on Newbury Street and in Davis Square, keep the same evening hours all week.
Local tip: On Fridays and Saturdays, Tilde in Porter Square and Trident on Newbury Street both serve until midnight, about an hour before the T stops running.1

Zinneken’s arrived on Massachusetts Avenue in Harvard Square in 2011, in the space that once held Arrow Street Crepes. Its founders, Nhon Ma and Bertrand Lempkowicz, met at school in Belgium in the 1990s, and their waffles are made from a dough studded with pearl sugar rather than a poured batter.2 It opens at 11:00 on weekdays and serves until 23:00 from Monday to Saturday.
Around the corner, Faro Cafe at 5 Arrow Street stays open until 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and Luxor Cafe at 148 Mount Auburn Street does the same, closing at 20:00 or 21:00 on other nights. In Jamaica Plain, Jadu at 767 Centre Street is a coffee shop by day and a wine bar from 17:00 to 22:00, Thursday to Sunday, with a menu that borrows from Mumbai chai stalls, Beirut seaside lunches and Barcelona tapas bars.6 Café La Paz at 101 South Huntington Avenue is open 07:00–22:00 every day.
