Koreatown's official limits run from Vermont Avenue west to Western Avenue and from Third Street south to Olympic Boulevard, about 2.7 square miles, with a business strip that follows Western farther south; Wilshire Boulevard is its best-known street.1 Korean immigrants settled here in growing numbers from the 1960s, drawn to the Mid-Wilshire district by empty storefronts and low rents.1
It is among the densest neighborhoods in the United States, and today Latinos make up just over half of its residents.1 It also has one of the country's largest concentrations of nightclubs and 24-hour businesses, and the cafés keep similar hours: Korean-style coffee and dessert rooms on 6th Street and Wilshire often serve until 22:00, and some until 01:00.12
Local tip: Driving in? Document Coffee Bar on Wilshire has its own lot behind the building; most other Koreatown cafés rely on metered street parking or paid plaza lots.

Getting to Koreatown on the D Line
The Metro D Line runs under Wilshire Boulevard, with stations at Wilshire/Vermont, Wilshire/Normandie and Wilshire/Western, and the B Line runs under Vermont Avenue.1 The Wiltern Theater marks the Wilshire and Western corner.1 From the University of Southern California, Metro bus lines 204 and 754 head north on Vermont into the neighborhood.3
Parking is the hard part. Document Coffee Bar at 3850 Wilshire Boulevard has a lot and a patio in back, which Discover Los Angeles calls a rarity for Koreatown; it serves cold brew with maple, a house latte and pastries from Bread Lounge.2
Bingsu and dessert cafés on West 6th Street

Wilshire Boulevard: corn lattes and einspänners
About Time took over the former Caffé Bene space at 3287 Wilshire and serves from 08:00 to 01:00 Monday to Saturday and until midnight on Sundays. Its best-seller is a corn latte, and its einspänners (espresso under a thick cap of cream, the Viennese way) come in tiramisu, matcha and Vienna versions.2 Drinks there averaged US$7–8 in 2024.3
Further along at 3435 Wilshire, rōk serves daily 08:00–22:00. Its cream-topped matcha and espresso drinks are sweet, and with little seating it works best as a grab-and-go stop.5 Alfred, at No. 3515, is the earliest opener on this stretch, at 06:30 every day.
Olympic Boulevard
Koreans moved north of Olympic Boulevard after the 1948 Supreme Court ruling in Shelley v. Kraemer on racial housing covenants.1 The boulevard's cafés sit between the 2500 and 3700 blocks. Memorylook at No. 2881, known for its einspänners and matcha, opens daily 08:00–21:00 and has a large patio, though a line forms most of the day.3
