The Alameda de Hércules is a long, tree-lined square in the north of the old town, laid out in 1574 when the Count of Barajas drained a marshy area, built channels and fountains and planted white poplars; it is described as the oldest public garden in Spain and Europe.1 Two Roman columns at its southern end carry statues of Hercules and Julius Caesar, and the northern pair, modern copies, carry 18th-century lions.1

The city redeveloped the square in 2006–2008, limiting traffic and adding kiosks, benches and fountains, and it is now one of Seville's main nightlife areas, with flamenco, tapas bars and a gay-friendly scene.1 East of it, Calle Feria and Calle Correduría run through the Feria barrio, where Sprudge found several of the city's specialty bars in 2024.23

Local tip: Go on a Thursday morning for El Jueves on Calle Feria, then have coffee at Parcería before it closes at 13:00.45

Calle Feria and the Thursday market

El Jueves, the Thursday market on Calle Feria, is the oldest in Seville: King Sancho regulated it in 1292, and it moved to Calle Feria in the 19th century.4 Its stalls sell every kind of object, antiques above all.4

Parcería, at 9 Plaza Calderón de la Barca, faces the Feria market beside the Palacio de los Marqueses de la Algaba and has a small terrace that catches the mid-morning sun.5 It pours Alquimista Coffee Lab beans from Mairena del Aljarafe with guest roasters that change about every three weeks, and laptops are not allowed.3 It shuts from 13:00 to 15:30 on weekdays and Saturdays and opens only until 13:30 on Sundays.

Specialty coffee on Calle Correduría

MUY Coffee, at 14 Calle Correduría, a few blocks east of the Alameda, opened in 2022 as a project of the three Gil Burger brothers; it uses only Ineffable Coffee Roasters, from Dos Hermanas, and sells their beans.3 It opens weekdays 08:30–19:30, Saturdays until 19:00 and Sundays until 18:30. Mehl, at number 5, serves brunch with outdoor tables.

In February 2026 Sevilla Secreta listed Parcería and Late, a short walk from it, as Seville's two entries on The Best Coffee Shops Spain list; Late uses Hola Coffee beans.5

Bakeries and brunch in the side streets

Otto Café, on Plaza de Montesión, opens 08:00–21:00 on every day except Thursday, with Wi-Fi, pastries and brunch. La Sra Pop, at 55 Calle Amor de Dios, is a bakery café with Wi-Fi, and Cafe Moma is at 33 Calle Feria.

The Casa de las Sirenas, a 19th-century palace on the west side of the Alameda, is now a civic center.1 El Tio del Saco on Calle Relator and La Flaca Café on Calle Torneo, toward the river, round out the north of the barrio.
