Seville, the capital of Andalusia, has about 700,000 people, and its old cafés sit in the Casco Antiguo, the district that roughly matches the ground inside the old Almohad walls.12 Calle Sierpes, closed to traffic since the 19th century, runs about 385 m from Plaza de la Campana to the city hall on Plaza de San Francisco, and from late spring awnings are strung over it at roof height for shade.3 The Confitería La Campana has stood at its top end since 1885.34

The everyday cup is a local roast. Catunambú, a Seville roaster with a café at 8 Calle Sierpes, says it has roasted coffee for more than a century, and its range includes a blend with a touch of torrefacto.5 Torrefacto beans are glazed with sugar during roasting and then mixed with plainly roasted ones, a method Spain is best known for.6

Specialty coffee is younger. Virgin Coffee, a takeaway counter on Calle Regina beside the Setas of Plaza de la Encarnación, has roasted its own beans since April 2015, and the Parish sisters opened Torch Coffee by the river the same year, with a roaster in the shop.17 Several newer bars sit around Calle Feria and Calle Correduría in the north of the old town; in February 2026 Sevilla Secreta named Parcería and Late, close to each other there, as Seville's two entries on The Best Coffee Shops Spain list.18

How to order coffee in Seville

Coffee comes in a glass. A café con leche is equal parts coffee and milk, a cortado is a smaller glass with a splash of milk, and a café solo is a longer pour than an Italian espresso.9 For something milder, ask for a manchado (literally "stained"), a glass of steamed milk with a little coffee at the bottom.9 Sugar sachets arrive with almost every cup, and traditional bars usually have only cow's milk, so ask before ordering oat or soy.9

Many Sevillanos eat their real breakfast mid-morning, around 10:00–11:00, and the merienda, usually something sweet with coffee, runs from about 17:00 to 20:00.9 Toast is the standard order, topped with olive oil and tomato, ham or carne mechada (shredded beef).10 It often comes on a mollete, a soft-crumbed roll that is a typical base for the Andalusian breakfast; the mollete de Antequera is the only Spanish one with protected geographical status.11

Prices climb near the monuments. In April 2025 a small black coffee and ham toast with oil cost €8.50 at a bar beside the Cathedral, while The Spanish Eye put the usual price of that breakfast in Andalusia at no more than €5.12 Tipping is optional; rounding up or leaving small change is enough.9

Summer heat in Seville passes 38 °C (100 °F), and some cafés close for a few hours in the middle of the day, so check the hours before an afternoon visit.1 People drink at the bar standing or sit at a table, and newer cafés also do takeaway.9
