The Agnesviertel is the northern tip of Neustadt-Nord, bounded by the Innere Kanalstraße, Riehler Straße, the Ringe and the railway embankment along Krefelder Straße.1 It is named after St. Agnes, the neo-Gothic church on Neusser Platz built around 1900, which its donor, Peter Joseph Roeckerath, dedicated in memory of his late wife Agnes; it is Cologne’s second-largest church.1

South of Ebertplatz runs the Eigelstein. The street follows the Roman road north to the legion camp at Neuss, and the Eigelsteintorburg, built between 1228 and 1260, has housed the Offene Jazz Haus Schule since 1990.2 The Eigelstein-Viertel counts, with the Severinsviertel, among the most original Veedel in Cologne.2

Local tip: Order a coffee at the King Georg Büdchen on Sudermanstraße and drink it on Ebertplatz; on long summer evenings the kiosk often has a DJ.
