On the peninsula
Formula B keeps 08:00–17:00 every day, a daytime window rather than a late one. I Like Sweety, at 44/3 Sisavangvong Road, has Wi-Fi and serves brunch, and Chaluenxay Villa & Coffee is on Sakkaline Road. Big Tree Cafe, under its tree on the Mekong, has free Wi-Fi and is open 10:00–21:30.2
Formula B is Lao-owned and sells cakes and pastries with its coffee.1 Saffron also does takeaway, so a coffee can leave with you when the table is needed for someone else.
Kingkitsarath Road and Dara Market
Epoca, at 1 Kingkitsarath Road, is smoke-free and open 07:00–21:00 every day, the longest hours among the Wi-Fi cafés on this side of town. Onson Bake & Cafe on Wisunalat Road opens 07:00–18:30 on weekdays only, and Full Moon Cafe & Bakery 07:00–16:00 daily.
Zurich Bread Bakery & Cafe, on Phommathat Road, has Wi-Fi and outdoor tables. Cat Café opens 10:00–16:00 and closes on Tuesdays.
South of the center: Ban Saylom and Phosy
Ock Pop Tok's Silk Road Cafe is at the Living Crafts Centre in Ban Saylom, with views over the Mekong and a seasonal farm-to-table menu of Lao home recipes and Silk Road dishes.3 A free tuk-tuk runs there from town between 08:00 and 21:00, and the last one back to the Post Office leaves at 21:00.3 Its kitchen draws on the café's own garden, the Living Land Project and the nearby open market.3 The café has outdoor seating as well as Wi-Fi.
The Luang Prabang Deaf & Mute Community Training Centre, south of the stadium, runs a café serving meals made with produce from its garden, next to a shop selling scarves and purses made by its students.4 Deaf&Mute Café opens 08:00–17:30, Monday to Saturday, with outdoor tables and takeaway. Luang cafe, also south of the center, opens 07:00–20:00 daily.
Heat, haze and cash
April is the hottest month, with an average daily high of 35.2 °C, so air-conditioning counts for as much as speed.5 Indigo Cafe, by the night market, has both, with indoor seating and hours of 06:30–22:00; Kaogee Cafe, in the same part of town, also has Wi-Fi.
From late February to April, smoke from field burning settles over the valley, a good reason to work indoors.2 Bring cash for the bill: ATMs and card payments in Laos can fail.6
