Klusais centrs, the Quiet Centre, is the residential quarter where Riga's best-known Art Nouveau streets run: Alberta, Elizabetes, Strēlnieku and Antonijas. Most of the city's Art Nouveau buildings date from 1904 to 1914, and the row of houses on Alberta iela, many designed by Mikhail Eisenstein, is among the most famous of them.1

Cafés here sit on the ground floors of apartment houses rather than on squares. Dzirnavu iela has the most, followed by Antonijas, Elizabetes and Krišjāņa Valdemāra iela, and a cluster of vegetarian and vegan kitchens runs along Ģertrūdes, Baznīcas and Lāčplēša.

Local tip: The Art Nouveau Museum at Alberta 12 opens at 10:00 and closes on Mondays; Sienna on Strēlnieku iela is already open from 08:30 on weekdays for a coffee first.3
