Yangjaecheon (양재천) is the greenway that sets this neighborhood's pace, a stream running 5.5 km from Gwanaksan through Seocho, Gangnam and Songpa into the Tancheon, with bike and walking paths on tiered ledges and 3.75 km of it named a Seoul Future Heritage.1 Benches, flower beds and public exercise equipment line the banks.1
The path from Yangjae toward Dogok was once famous as a café street. Allure wrote in 2013 that it no longer had its old glamour, but that people still came for a walk, a glass of wine or a plate of pasta, among older buildings that had outlasted the fashion.2 The stream still draws the visitors, and behind it the coffee trade runs to wholesalers, machine rental and green-bean importers as much as to tables.
Local tip: Walk the stream first and stop for coffee second: leave Maebong station by exit 4, take the path along Yangjaecheon, and climb to Room Service 301's rooftop on any day but Monday.

룸서비스301 (Room Service 301), on the third floor at Yangjaecheon-ro 193, is the café a local reporter chose in November 2025, along the street you reach from exit 4 of Maebong station.3 Big windows, gallery-style posters and a fourth-floor rooftop over the stream are what it offers.3 It is known for matcha, and its signature cream latte, made with Kyoto matcha, cost ₩8,000 at the time; it closes on Mondays.3
Decaf drinkers get handmade Jeju green-tangerine and omija ades, and whole cakes for three or four people need ordering ahead.3 Hours at the time were 11:30–21:00, or 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.3 Go when the trees turn, because the view is the point: that report was filed on 20 November with the autumn color at its height.3
에이티플러스커피 (80+ Coffee) at Yangjaecheon-ro 21-gil 25 takes its name from a rule: it uses only coffee scoring 80 or more on the Specialty Coffee Association's scale, the standard threshold for the word "specialty".4 Its range includes drip bags, sold in daily packs of Brazil, Colombia and Ethiopia.4
Gentle Coffee, based on Nonhyeon-ro 30-gil in Dogok-dong, is a different sort of neighbor: alongside its specialty beans it rents coffee machines, supplies offices and advises people opening cafés.5 리플렉트(Reflect Coffee Roasters), on Hyoryeong-ro 72-gil, roasts specialty coffee, as do Fabrique Coffee Roasters and 핸드크라프트 Handcraft Specialty Coffee.
커피플랜트 (Coffee Plant) at Dogok 1-dong brings in green coffee from around the world and sells it on to the Korean trade.6 브라이언스커피 (Brian's Coffee), at Nonhyeon-ro 26-gil 46, sells single origins such as Kenya Kiangoi AA and Colombia Aponte Honey by the 200 g and 1 kg bag, along with a Social Club blend and subscriptions.7
The international names noticed the neighborhood too. On 1 November 2022 the French specialty house Terres de Café opened in Yangjae, its first shop in Korea and in Asia.8 this place again, on Mabang-ro 6-gil, shortens its name to TPA and has a ground-floor room in Yangjae-dong.9
