The name means "three teahouses". Shingaraki, Kadoya and Tanakaya stood where the road to the Ōyama pilgrimage met the Noborito road, and the name was in common use by the early 1800s.1 The Ōyama road survives roughly as Route 246, and the Setagaya Line, which opened in 1925, ends here.1

Roasters set the tone here, with companies dating to 2009 and 2010 near a married couple's basement counter on Chazawa-dōri and a bean shop that runs its own farm. The cafés spread well beyond the junction, south into Shimouma and Komazawa and west along the Setagaya Line.

Local tip: For a late cup near the station, Moon Factory Coffee ran 13:00 to 01:00 as of January 2025, closed Thursdays.3

The menu keeps up the theme. Its ¥1,380 curry (as of 2026) is presented as the local dish of Shizuhama, a city that does not exist, and its Napolitan won a bronze prize in the 2025 Kagome Napolitan Stadium for southern Kantō.8
