Gò Vấp lies north of the center, with the wall of Tân Sơn Nhất airport along most of its western side and the Tham Lương–Bến Cát River separating it from District 12.1 It belonged to Gia Định province until 1976 and urbanized quickly from the 1980s, growing from about 144,000 people in 1976 to more than 660,000 in 2017.1 Since July 2025 the old district has been six wards: Hạnh Thông, An Nhơn, Gò Vấp, Thông Tây Hội, An Hội Tây and An Hội Đông.2

Big gardens on Phan Văn Trị

Phan Văn Trị is the street for space. Cà Phê Country House, at 18C, is divided into separate areas around a white wooden fence, a vine-covered wooden house, a windmill and a small stream, and it pours ginger and lemongrass-lime teas as well as coffee.3

Cà Phê Family Garden, at 438, is arranged around a central lake with a music fountain, and it has a children's play area and a private air-conditioned room.35 It also takes parties, so groups should book. Du Miên Garden, at number 7, has been open for more than 10 years; drinks cost 40,000–88,000₫ in March 2025.35

Phen's Coffee on Nguyễn Văn Công is small, but it overlooks green fields that planes pass over, and reviewers count one about every 5 to 10 minutes, though the gap varies.3 Drinks there cost 25,000–70,000₫ in March 2025, and the menu runs from teas to specialty coffees.3

Cafe Ngắm Máy Bay, whose name means "plane-watching café", sits on a lane off Quang Trung, the long road that also carries a run of garden and rooftop cafés.

A retro yard with a pool

Cà Phê Saigon Chic opened in 2014 on the second floor of an old apartment block on Đồng Khởi in District 1, started by a group of architects fond of nostalgic Saigon style, and later moved to Đường số 27 here.4 The fittings were collected over time: old televisions, colored doors, the bases of vintage sewing machines.4

The yard is a garden with a pool, which hosts parties of up to 250 guests.4 A black coffee was 28,000₫ and a coconut coffee 45,000₫ on its 2026 menu.4
