Tenjinbashisuji is the longest straight shopping street in Japan, about 2.6 km from north to south, made up of nine arcades and about 600 shops as of a 2014 count.1 Its 1-chōme end reaches the approach to Osaka Tenmangū, the shrine.2
The coffee splits by age. Under the arcade roof, kissaten (喫茶店, coffee houses) keep their dark wood and stained glass.6 In the side streets, a newer group of small roasters has set up, one of them on the approach to the shrine and another in a Taishō-era row house.23
Local tip: Reach 自家焙煎珈琲喫茶路地 after 13:00, since it stays shut in the morning and on most Mondays and Tuesdays.3 Most of the arcade's older kissaten are a straight walk down the same street from there.

自家焙煎珈琲喫茶路地 (an alley kissaten that roasts its own beans) stands in a wooden row house from the Taishō era (1912–1926), a building that came through the Osaka air raids.3 It is about two minutes from Tenjinbashisuji 6-chōme Station, and Exit 13 has a sign pointing the way.4 The diamond-glass windows and sliding doors are original, and the shop had passed its tenth anniversary by 2023.4
The roaster works in small batches over direct flame, by feel more than by efficiency.3 Each cup is hand-dripped, and the signature house blend (路地ブレンド), a medium-dark roast, cost ¥580 as of 2023.4 It opens only 13:00–18:00, Wednesday to Sunday, and on Mondays that fall on public holidays.3
NOWA coffee roastery is on the approach to Osaka Tenmangū, and its online shop ships from Tenjinbashi.2 It roasts specialty beans in-house and changes its blends with the season: the autumn 2026 blend, a medium-dark roast, mixes Ethiopia and Costa Rica.2 Its cold brew is made from a honey-processed Costa Rican coffee, and the shop opens 11:00–19:00, closing Mondays.2
A short walk west in Sugahara, 北浜ポート焙煎所 (Kitahama Port Roasters) sells beans and coffee from 10:30 to 19:00, closing Sundays.5 Bridges Co., Ltd. operates it, and its site names the owner only as Takahashi.5
Three old rooms sit close together on Tenjinbashi 1-chōme. 豆香 (a kissaten of dark wood and brick) has a big counter where regulars talk, and 麗門 (a glass-fronted kissaten) opens out into a stepped, surprisingly spacious room with large mirrors.6 伊吹珈琲 (Ibuki Coffee) is the modern one, with a visible roasting room and a taste it dates to 1934.6 A coffee in any of them cost ¥380–¥390 as of January 2021.6
ビクター (Coffee House Victor) spreads over three levels with jazz, stained glass and a chandelier, and it has a long parfait menu.6 天満プランタン (a European-styled Tenma kissaten) has glass chandeliers and Gallé-style lamps, and pours hot coffee at ¥370 as of 2021.6 コロンボ (Koronbo), up a flight of stairs on Tenjinbashisuji 6-chōme, has traded since before 1955 and sold a cream parfait for ¥580 in 2021.6
For lunch, モーデン (Mōden) is known for its waraji napolitan (わらじナポリタン), spaghetti in ketchup topped with a large cutlet, as of 2014.1
