Dorćol runs down from the old center to the right bank of the Danube and is the oldest surviving neighborhood in Belgrade.1 Upper Dorćol, once called Zerek, covers the area from Academy Park to Cara Dušana street; Lower Dorćol, the former Jalija, lies between Cara Dušana, Bulevar despota Stefana and the river.1

The two halves drink differently. The upper streets are full of cafés, bars and restaurants, mostly on Strahinjića Bana, Kneginje Ljubice and Kralja Petra, while the lower section has small cafés, craft breweries and art spaces.1 More cafés here are smoke-free than in any other Belgrade neighborhood, close to half of them.

Local tip: D59B’s DJs play at weekends, and the bar opens at 09:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. For a quieter cup, Pržionica on Dobračina 59B also opens at 09:00 at weekends.2
