Vračar is Belgrade’s smallest municipality, 287 hectares on a plateau that rises to 132 meters, and with 18,967 people per square kilometer in 2011 it is by far the most densely populated in Belgrade.1 The Church of Saint Sava fills the top of the plateau: building began in 1935, the exterior was finished in 2004 and the interior in 2020.2

The commercial heart is the area around Kalenić, the largest open green market in Belgrade.1 Vračar has more specialty coffee bars than any other neighborhood, and many of them sit in the grid of streets between Njegoševa, Makenzijeva and Kajmakčalanska, next door to kafići with big terraces and smoky back rooms.

Local tip: Dusha on Radoslava Grujića opens at 07:00 every day, early enough for a coffee before the Kalenić stalls fill up; Koppa, by contrast, does not open on Sundays.
