Yan Nawa (ยานนาวา) was once Ban Thawai, a village of Tavoy people who brought water buffalo to market. It took its present name after Phra Pradaeng province was abolished in 1932, and Sathon and Bang Kho Laem (บางคอแหลม) were split from it in 1989.1 Bang Kho Laem means "a place of narrow neck", after the sharp bend the Chao Phraya makes here.2

No single street anchors the coffee. Sathu Pradit Road has the longest run, Rama III and its numbered sois serve the office towers, and the last stretch of Charoen Krung around Thanon Tok (ถนนตก) is older and closer to the river.

Local tip: For the Thanon Tok end, get off the BRT at Rama III Bridge or Charoenrat, the first of its six stations on the road.3

Sathu Pradit: the roaster other bars buy from

When BK Magazine reviewed Somersault Coffee Roasters in November 2016, it found a small room of wood, whitewash and succulents, with hot coffee from B60 and croissants at B35.4 By late 2023 Wongnai was describing a Sathu Pradit shop that had grown into its own roastery and now supplies many other cafés, with beans from Yunnan among the ones it is known for. A newer branch in Phra Nakhon had closed by then.5

A Morning Cafe (Coffee and Bakery), down Soi 58, suits an early start: in August 2025 it opened at 07:30 on weekdays and stayed shut on Sundays.7 Kid Mai Tueng Specialty Coffee is further along the road at number 494, and iNBREW Coffee bar is on Soi 36.

Rama III: towers, bakeries and a car wash

Rama III Road runs 12 km around the river bend. It was built before the 1997 financial crisis to pull business south from Silom, and some of the high-rises along it were abandoned when the crisis hit.3 The Bangkok BRT, the bus line between Sathorn and Ratchaphruek, has six stations on it.3

Teyaki sits inside a car wash on Soi 19.6 Reviewers on Wongnai describe a minimalist Japanese room seating about 20, opened during the pandemic and in its sixth year by January 2026.6 The dish people come for is a large seafood senbei (Japanese cracker), pressed flat and served with a small hammer to break it.6

Grab's August 2025 roundup of Rama III cafés has Figlio Room, on Charoen Rat Road, opening at 06:00 on most weekdays, and says Define Cafe, further east on Soi 73, pairs its coffee with bread baked daily.7

Thanon Tok and the far end of Charoen Krung

Charoen Krung ends where Rama III begins, at the foot of Krungthep Bridge in the Thanon Tok quarter. Thanon Tok was once the main port of the Siamese capital, its river crowded with merchant ships.3

Rosetta Coffee Roaster, at 2414/20 Charoen Krung, is as much a supplier as a café. Its own site offers standard and premium blends and single origins alongside La Marzocco and Modbar machines, Fuji Royal roasters and a classroom.8 Sunny Bake and Brew ซันนี่ เบกค์ แอนด์ บรูว์ is nearby at number 2955.

Soi Charoen Krung 103 leads to Suan Luang 1, a long-established Muslim community. Since 2013 its old canal has been the setting for a waterfront market of about 100 food stalls, all halal.2

Chan, Nonsi and Narathiwat

Craftsman is on a lane off Soi Chan 43. Grab's roundup says it roasts and brews in one shop, with a batch brew poured while the beans roast, and gives a 07:00 weekday opening in 2025.7 YAMATO Slow Bar Specialty Coffee And Tea Space is on a lane off the same soi.

Closer to Sathorn, the offices around Nonsi Road have their own morning trade. Termtem Coffee, a chain, keeps a branch in the At Area building off Nonsi that opened at 07:00 daily in 2025, and Northboys Coffee on Narathiwat Soi 22 takes Tuesdays off.7
