Zhongzheng's coffee gathers around Huashan 1914 Creative Park, which began in 1914 as a Japanese-owned brewery making sake, plum wine and ginseng wine.4 Brewing ended in 1987 when production moved to Guishan in Taoyuan, and the site stood empty until arts figures began campaigning to reuse it in 1997.4 The provincial culture department took over in 1999, a year-long renovation reopened it in late 2005, and it has traded under its present name since December 6, 2007.4
It is a 3–5 minute walk from Exit 1 of Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT.4 The blocks around that exit hold shops built on one person's training, while the earliest counters open further west, toward the Main Station.

Simple Kaffa began in 2011 as Berg Wu's (吳則霖) own shop, five years before he won the World Barista Championship in Dublin.2 His explanation that year was about water: coffee is 98 percent water, so good coffee needs good water.2
The flagship at 27 Zhongxiao East Road Section 2 sets a forest-inspired interior of wood and skylights inside an older building.1 Big 7 Travel ranked it the world's top coffee shop, the first Taiwanese café on that list, and a 2025 Bella guide recommends the cappuccino and the brown sugar latte.1 It serves 10:00–17:00 daily.
Coffee Sind started as a shop inside a succulent-plant store and now runs from a lane off Xinsheng South Road Section 1 with three bar seats, roasting its own light-medium beans.1 Its drinks lean on Taiwanese ingredients: magnolia coffee, mulberry coffee and a latte topped with Tainan cane sugar on the foam, the 赤崁糖拿鐵 (Chihkan sugar latte), its signature drink.1 It closes at 22:00 on weekdays and 18:00 at weekends.
木白甜點咖啡店 (Wood x White Café) built its following near Xingtian Temple station, then grew busier after moving to an alley off Linsen North Road. It serves French desserts in matcha and strawberry series, open-faced sandwiches and quiche, with Japanese teas and coffee.1 紙街 (Paper St. Cafe), on Bade Road Section 1, is the plainer stop before the park: Americano, latte, cappuccino, croissants and cheesecake in a spare industrial room.1
Not everything in this district is espresso. 陸羽茶藝中心 (Lu-Yu Tea Center) on Hengyang Road was founded in Taipei in 1980 and works on three things: developing teaware, teaching and discussing tea ceremony, and running tea-culture events.3 Hengyang Road also has 衡陽路ikara Coffee, at number 116.
喜悅研磨咖啡 (a café whose name means "joyful grinding"), on Guangzhou Street, is the earliest start, from 06:00 Monday to Saturday and done by early afternoon. Xiangyang Road has two 07:30 weekday openers, 16.67 Cafe and Solo Beans. 生活在他方 (elsewhere café), in a lane off Roosevelt Road Section 1, also starts from 07:30, Tuesday to Sunday, and stays until 22:00.
